Nepal set to resume repatriation flights again

There has been so much of ups and downs in the aviation field of Nepal.  The repatriation flights which were on a halt are set to resume as decided by the cabinet meeting held on Thursday. Hundreds of Nepalese were left stranded due to sudden cancellation of repatriation flights, now the flights are set to resume again. The repatriation flights will only bring Nepali nationals from different parts of the world. Furthermore, the cabinet meeting also decide that only three flights will be operated per day as per the rules and guidelines set by the government of Nepal. Previously, Tribhuwan International Airport has been operating  more than 5 flights per day.

Meanwhile government has also planned to resume regular flights soon. Maybe as soon as Kathmandu ends its second phase of lockdown. The flights from the countries with fewer Covid-19 cases will be permitted to fly to Nepal. The daily flights would carry only Nepalese from specific countries to Nepal. As I have mentioned in my previous articles, the air fare for the chartered flights seems to be very high as per the passengers. So the resumption of regular flights might somehow be an aid for them. However, the final decision regarding the resumption of the international commercial flights has not been made.

Kathmandu is under a strict lockdown as of now. As per the notice issued, lockdown will last till next week, only the essential and emergency services are available. The capital has seen a massive increase in the Covid-19 cases and deaths due to the virus since the end of the first phase of lockdown. This time the lockdown is even more strict than before. So the resumption of the regular flights might do good for some part but might not be a best thing to do right now. Apart from that, we cannot be sure about the end of ongoing lockdown anytime soon. Government is likely to come up with a clear decision in the next meeting for the regular flights.
