Cultural tourism is what Nepal should aim for next.

It has been several decades since Nepal has been opened for tourism and the majority of the tourists who travel to this Himalayan nation visits for trekking and mountaineering. These activities are still one of favourites of tourists as majority of them has the same old motive for their visit to Nepal. There is no doubt that Nepal could offer the best and lifetime experience when it comes to trekking and mountaineering. The tourism of the nation has been hugely dependent on these certain activities for several years now and these tourist activities has totally held the tourism of Nepal as it was expected. However, there are so much more that Nepal could offer to the tourists other than the mountains and other adventures, which has already been proved in the last five years or so.

Cultural tours and the related activities has been a major part of tourism in Nepal for the last couple of years. Tourist has shown a huge interest in the cultures and traditions of Nepal and there has been a massive growth in the involvement of tourists in the cultural  tours. Not only in Nepal but cultural tourism is getting hugely popular in the global tourism industry. Cultural tourism is regarded as one of the global tourism trends with the huge involvement of tourists in the recent years. For Nepal, there is a huge potential of cultural tourism in the industry. Although cultural tours have been quite active and popular in the last couple of years, it is yet to be fully developed to be a complete four package.

Why should Nepal aim for cultural tourism ?

The growing interest of tourists in the cultures and traditions of Nepal is the number one reason for it but what actually makes cultural tourism a huge potential in the tourism industry in Nepal is the unique and diversified cultures and traditions of the nation. We are not talking about a certain culture here, Nepal is one of the richest country when it comes to the cultures and traditions and each one of them is unique in their own way. When we talk about the cultural tourism, it has always been there if we look closely. From Terai to the Himalayan region, people living all over these places have their own cultures and traditions. Even if we go for trekking, we will find a certain community with unique cultures and tradition on  the way. If you are in Kathmandu, you will stumble upon different festivals and traditional celebrations on way or the other. Like this and with any other tourist activities, culture has always been a part of tourism industry of Nepal either directly or indirectly.

The cultures and traditions in Nepal has been creating impressions from a long time now which we can see it in their reviews regarding their trip to Nepal as well.  I have seen the involvement of tourists in different jatras and festivals in Kathmandu and some of them being a part of the celebration by wearing the traditional Newari dresses. The smiles on their face tells that how much they enjoy being there and celebrating along with the locals. Now with the rich and diversified cultures, we can expect varieties of tour packages which has their own unique taste. The tour packages can be diversified along with the diversification of cultures throughout the nation which makes it even more interesting.

Other than that, when we talk about the cultural tourism or the cultures and traditions in Nepal, the temples and heritage sites with several jatras and festivals comes along with it. Though there is a certain package for heritage tourism, the cultures and the traditions will definitely includes the temples and heritages as they are a part of it. So cultural tourism will also create and promote the heritages, temples, art and architectures of Nepal. This is plus point for both tourists and the tourism industry of Nepal.

Cultures and traditions with several jatras and festivals are one of the ever green treasures of Nepal. The vibe from these cultures and traditions and the environment created by these  jatras and festivals makes it evergreen which will never go away. This very environment is where tourist want to spend their leisure time. Nepal should aim big in the cultural tourism sector and start drafting new ideas and plans for the cultural tourism.  The growing involvement of tourists in these tours and activities has created a huge demand in the tourism industry and Nepal with the potential it has for cultural tourism, there is no doubt that it is going to be a major part the tourism industry of Nepal in coming days.
