The Department of Immigration, Nepal has recently released the arrival departure data of Asoj, 2077 BS ( Nepali calendar) which covers the mid September to mid October. As per the data released by the Immigration department, the total of 1191 foreigners arrived in Nepal last month.
The tourists from USA tops the list followed by the tourists from India and China. Nepal has alwasy received the majority of tourists arrival from these countries.
United States of America (USA) – 240 arrival
United Kingdom (UK) – 175 arrival
India – 75 arrival and China – 73 arrival.
Arrival of tourists to Nepal from about 100 different countries in last month.
Tourists from about 100 different countries arrived in Nepal in the month of Asoj as per the data. On the other hand, the data did not mention about the motives and the purpose of these foreign arrivals. While many of them might have arrived for trekking, some might have even travelled to Nepal for other specific purposes or for other diplomatic reasons. So we cannot count them as the the ones who arrived in Nepal for trekking. Apart from that, 2814 tourists departed from Nepal to their respective destinations in the month of Asoj.
It has already been about a couple of weeks since Nepal is open for trekking to foreign nationals as well and has listed 12 different destinations open for trekking.
Moving on, Nepal is now open for foreign tourists, they can now travel to Nepal but only for trekking and mountain activities. Tourism activities are limited to mountains only for the foreign nationals as of now. This might be one of the reasons for the few arrival of foreign tourists to Nepal apart from the covid-19 situation.
Domestic tourists on the aid of the tourism industry of Nepal in the absence of foreign tourists.
However, the absence of the foreign tourists has made domestic tourists the number one priority as they are filling the gaps in the tourism sector of Nepal. The involvement of domestic tourists in different tourism activities has slightly boosted and motivated the tourism industry of Nepal.
On the other hand, the tourism industry as a whole that includes several organisations are providing huge offers and giving massive discounts on their products and services as of now. Many adventure sports are now offered for a huge cut price than before which might increase the involvement of domestic tourists but there are still a handful of hotels that are struggling to operate their activities and services.
While the Covid-19 situation is still affecting the arrival of tourists for trekking, the mandatory insurance of the huge amount of $5000 for the travellers might be another hindrance. However, the first month since the resumption of trekking activities for foreign tourists has attracted around 1000 foreign nationals and we can only hope for more in the coming months.
