The roller coaster of Tourism in Nepal.

While things seems to be gradually getting back to normal, the virus has not yet gone which has created a panic mode once again with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. However, people are ok to regulate their daily life with the virus as the working environment is slowly getting back on track by following all the health and safety protocols.

Nepal might not be open for international tourists for leisure activities yet.

Several tourism activities are being resumed recently but the but tourists from different parts of the world are yet to be permitted to visit Nepal for leisure activities. There has been news about resuming the tourism activities and permitting the international travellers to visit Nepal for tourism activities other than trekking but it might not take place anytime soon as the Nepal Government does not seem to find a way to do that. So the international tourists who are intending to travel to Nepal for leisure activities might  have to wait for a while now.

Tourists from different parts of the world can travel to Nepal for trekking and mountaineering but they need to show a genuine itinerary and confirmed travel package to get on-arrival visa to Nepal this time. Nepal Government has set a few bars for the tourists who wants to trek in the high mountains of Nepal in this pandemic.

Increasing the quarantine upon arrival to Nepal maybe ?

As of now, anyone traveling to Nepal has to provide a PCR negative report 72 hr prior to boarding the flight and have to stay on a 7 days hotel quarantine upon their arrival to Nepal. Now, the concerned authorities are planning on to make a 14 days hotel quarantine upon the arrival of the travellers from any parts of the world ( that includes Nepali travellers as well) but they do not need to go for the report if they do not show any symptoms at the end of their quarantine. However, for the ones who will be heading on for the trek has to provide the PCR negative report once again. Well, CCMC ( Covid Crisis Management Centre) is yet to have a look on this new protocol which is yet to be implemented.

Are domestic tourists really increasing in the absence of the international visitors?

Moving on, the tourism activities like short tours, bike riding , hiking and adventures sports are really growing among the local tourists in Nepal. In the absence of internationals tourists, the tourism industry has seen the huge involvement of domestic tourists as different news sources reports. However, there has always been a huge participation of local tourists in the tourism of Nepal. Now with the absence of international visitors, it just seems that there is a huge involvement of local tourists.

On the other hand, around thousand tourists (excluding Nepali) from different motives and purpose has arrived to Nepal from different parts of the world as per the stats whichis similar to the orvious months arrival.

One of the major reasons behind the few arrival of tourists apart from the Covid-19 situation might be the limited tourism activities( trekking and mountaineering only). If the tourists are ready and the tourism activities are operated by maintaining all the health and safety protocols then yes there  is definitely a way to make these tourism activities available for the international visitors but the government does not seem to be ready yet.
