The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has started free transportation service at the Tribhuwan International Airport. The service has been started by the aviation authority of Nepal as per the directives from the Tourism Ministry. Two Hiace (Micro bus) are in operation for free transportation at the Kathmandu airport.
The free micro bus service will be available from the Golden gate of Tribhuwan International Airport (which is the main entry/ exit point) to the domestic terminal of TIA. (Various sources have confirmed). The free service is only available for anyone traveling domestically via Kathmandu airport.
It is said that the decision to provide the free transportation is due to the excessive pricing of the local taxis at the airport. Most the people who use public transport to reach at the airport take a walk all the way to both domestic and international terminal from the entry point.
The Tribhuwan International Airport is arguably one of the short/ medium range airports in the whole world as compared to other international airports which is why TIA is always crowded. It usually takes 5- 12 minutes to reach at the domestic terminal from the entry gate which it takes about 5 minutes to reach at the international terminal.
With the introduction of the free transportation service to the domestic terminal, it might create an ease for anyone traveling alone and also to the new comers. Most of the passengers traveling domestically arrive solely to the airport unlike the passengers at international terminal with their families and friends. So this new transportation service can be used optimally amongst the passengers.
Since only two vehicles are available as a part of free transportation, passengers might need to wait for their turn. It is also said that there are plans to increase the number of vehicles as a part of the free service in coming days.
On top of that, the waiting luggage station might be created at the entry gate at Tribhuwan International Airport for the passengers to rest their luggage while they wait for their turn to use the free transportation service.
Tribhuwan International Airport on overall has improved greatly in the last few years. From the exterior part to the interiors and the service, you can notice the difference if you are a frequent traveler. Well, with the new directives and the changing world, we can only hope for better and better.
