Nepal sets a target of 2.5 million tourist arrival by 2025

The tourism and hospitality industry has been brought to its knees due to the corona virus pandemic. The visit Nepal 2020, which was supposed to be one of the biggest tourism year of Nepal is postponed due to the pandemic. After months of total lockdown due to the virus, the tourism industry has not even found a way to get back to the game.

As per the economic survey of the year 2076/77 presented by Dr Yubraj Khatiwad ,Nepal aims to attract 2.5 million tourist by the end of 2020 and also create employment for 898,000 people in next five years. Nepal has been one of the favourite destinations to travel for tourist in recent years. The Visit Nepal 2020 was supposed to be one of the biggest tourism Year of Nepal. With this event, Nepal expected 2 million tourist arrival in 2020 but the covid-19 pandemic threw spanner to their plans which made the event to be postponed.

However, the Government of Nepal and the concerned authorities are trying to find a way to restart tourism and restore tourism influx into the country soon after the pandemic is over. Nepal has witnessed a gradual increase in tourism in recent years. In 2019, Nepal received more than 1 million tourist arrival. The government also aimed to attract 2 million tourist by 2020 but that seems impossible now.

Government and the concerned tourism authorities have been continuously working on the recovery and development of tourism sites amid corona virus lockdown.  Nepal has recovered many of its heritage sites that was partially destroyed by the massive earthquake of 2015. Tribhuvan International Airport has completed many of their works including two more parking space for wide body aircrafts which makes a total of five parking space for wide body aircrafts. Furthermore, two new international airports is on the way at Pokhara and Bhairahawa. The Pokhara international is set the to completed by July 2021. Government is also planning to add new aircrafts to the Nepal airlines fleet.
