Little after lifting the suspension of many services, facilities, industries and different operators, the situation of Nepal is slowly heading back to normal. With few restrictions and by following the health and safety methods prepared by the Government due to Covid-19 concerns, Tourism Industry is now partially open in Nepal. It did not take long for the streets of the capital to get crowded once the lockdown was set loose by the government. Since then, the streets of Kathmandu and different other parts of Nepal are getting busier day by day. As of now, if we take a tour around the city of Kathmandu, everything looks quite normal, the only difference is people wear masks and follows the basic safety and health protocols b cause that is new normal. One of the best part about the lockdown is that the capital looks much more neat and clean than before.
Few days after the decision to ease the lockdown by the government, people started traveling. The social medias were filled with travel photos and travel diaries. The public transportation was still suspended but the personal motor bikes seemed to be the optimal means of travel. The cabinet meeting held by the government decided to resume domestic travel and soon after the resumption of domestic flights the hotels, travel agents, and restaurants were permitted to open by the government. Now with this decision, the domestic travel took a huge turn. People started to started traveling to different parts of the capital as well as other cities like Pokhara.
Since foreigners are still not allowed to travel for leisure purposes to Nepal and will likely to stay until the mid October, there is no other option for the tourism industry of Nepal other than making domestic tourists their number one priority as of now. The resumption of domestic flights has created an ease for the Nepalese to travel from one destination to another inside Nepal and some of these domestic airlines like Yeti airlines and Buddha air has come up with their own tour package which includes both round trio flights and tour package with reasonable pricing.
Moving on, many hotels in Kathmandu are still being used for quarantine facility and many have already started operating for regular purposes. On the other hand, restaurants are now open and these restaurants and cafes will no doubt generate traffic one way or another. Now with all these services being resumed, domestic tourists in Nepal might be motivated to travel different parts of Nepal where traveling is permitted. On the other hand, Pokhara seems to ready to resume many of their tourist activities. The beauty of the city and the adventure sports in this place makes it one of the famous tourist destination for both domestic and international tourists. Tourism is a huge business industry in Pokhara, many people are dependent in tourism at this place. Now with the resumption of tourist activities, the domestic tourism might take a huge upturn in coming days. With trekking activities to resume from 17 October for both domestic and international tourists, the resumption of tourist activities will make Pokhara to prepare for mountain and other activities.
The best thing is people have casually started traveling to different destinations inside the Kathmandu valley for a bike ride or for a short hiking. One of the best thing to do in Kathmandu might be bike ride inside the capital as of now. Many people are seen riding on their bicycle and taking a short trip to different destinations like Kirtipur, Patan and other places. Apart from that, the concerned authorities are planning for new ideas and safe tourist activities to come into effect as soon as possible. Plus different sectors of the tourism industry of Nepal are urging government to resume the possible tourist activities as soon as possible. The tourism board of Nepal (NTB) is planning to conduct a tree plantation programme on Kirtipur on World Tourism Day and they also intend on planning a virtual cycle tour inside the capital on this day.
Looking at the current situation, the domestic tourism in Nepal is running in a full swing as people have started traveling to different destinations for leisure purposes. Domestic tourism might be a much needed helping hand and a huge relief for different tourism sectors and tourism industry as a whole. On top of that, Nepal is slowly resuming different tourism sectors and infrastructures and with the decision to open Nepal for tourism for trekking and mountain activities, it seems Nepal is ready to welcome limited number of tourists and serve them as need be.
