There has been a very few arrival of tourists in Nepal since the resumption of tourism amid the pandemic. A few hundred of tourists did arrive from different parts of the world to Nepal for trekking and tourism but to be honest the arrival is very less to completely revive the tourism of the Himalayan nation.
One of the major reason of few tourists arrival apart from the Covid-19 and safety might be the tourism activities which is only limited to trekking and mountaineering. The latest stats before the pandemic tells that most of the tourists who arrived in Nepal visit for the holiday purpose. As much trekking and mountaineering is loved by the tourists, the local culture, heritage and festivals are no less for the visitors.
Moving on, there might be a good news for the foreign nationals who plan on visiting Nepal.
On arrival visa services.
Soon after the international flights were suspended in Nepal, the on arrival visa services were closed as well due to the Covid-19. Nepal used to provide on arrival visa services to most of the countries but the with the pandemic, the on arrival visa services were closed and it stayed the same even after resumption of international commercial flights.
As of now, the on arrival visa services are limited to certain people only. Tourists on the other hand have to get their visa from the Nepalese Diplomatic Mission abroad as they are not allowed on arrival visa service in Nepal yet. However, things might change soon.
As the concerned authorities plan on attracting more tourists to Nepal in the year 2021, the on arrival visa services might resume for the tourists as well. Several tourism entrepreneurs and travel operators are still in talk with concerned authorities about the on arrival visa service for the tourists. A handful of news sources have also hinted on the resumption. So there is a high change that the on arrival visa services might resume this year.
Tourists might not need to stay in a hotel quarantine upon their arrival to Nepal.
Tourism entrepreneurs and travel operators had already shown their dissatisfaction regarding the hotel quarantine upon the arrival of tourists. As of now, anyone who travels to Nepal by air has to stay in a hotel quarantine for a year upon their arrival.
While the hotel quarantine seems to be needed with the ongoing situation of pandemic, it seems tourists who plan on traveling to Nepal might be demotivated by this measure of the Nepal government.
As per the news sources, tourists who have PCR negative report might not need to stay in a hotel quarantine upon their arrival to Nepal.
So these two measures might come into action soon and if the government does take this decision then it might definitely motivate tourists who have been waiting on to visit Nepal.
On the other hand, the Covid-19 vaccines have been provided to more than 40 thousand front line workers till now and it is still on going. So the vaccines are being distributed as well and on top of that the tourism board is planning for the revival of tourism in Nepal.
However, the pandemic is not over yet and there still, new cases of Covid-19 is being discovered in Nepal everyday. While it is safe to travel to Nepal by following proper health and safety protocols, all of is should still be careful about the ongoing situation. Meanwhile, it has been a couple of months since the resumption of tourism in Nepal where thousands have already arrived and there has not been any issues yet.
