Tourism and Monasteries in Nepal.

Nepal is a home to handful of Buddhist monasteries. With the birthplace of Lord Buddha situated in Nepal at Lumbini, there is no doubt that the Himalayan nation has got some old monasteries as well. Monasteries are a very quiet and peaceful place where they follow Buddhist philosophy and are open to the general people as well.

Most of the monasteries are open to the visitors from local to the international tourists. From high mountain regions to the local tourist destination at the hill side or nearby the city areas, you will find monasteries all around the place in Nepal.

The monasteries follow the Buddhist philosophy and has their own practices and traditions as well as celebrations but the best part is these monasteries are always open and the monks over there have a welcoming nature. So people can visit this place whenever they like. Some might need permissions but most of them might not need it.

As the monasteries are always open to the people, the tourists who visits Nepal are always fond about traveling to monasteries. The main motive of tourists might not be visiting the monasteries while in Nepal but it seems most of them likely end up there at least once throughout their trip.

Engagement of tourists in monasteries and meditation.

As there are handful of monasteries already in the Kathmandu and with the increase in demand, many travel packages prepared by the tour operators in the capital also include monasteries inside the Kathmandu valley. As much as the cultural and heritage sites has been popular among the tourists in the last few years, the monasteries are creating no less impressions among the visitors as well.

There has been a massive growth of tourism in Nepal in the last few years and the trends in tourism has evolved and increased as tourists are traveling with different travel motives, leisure and recreation.

Talking about the recreational activities, monasteries are a home for meditation. There are no better places than monasteries for meditation. Several monasteries in Nepal conduct meditation activities. Most of them have also understood the importance of tourism and we can find tourists or the visitors engaged in these type of activities. Many tourists can be seen as a part of meditating session and part of other activities as well. Other than that, some monasteries even have guest house where tourist can stay throughout their trip.

In the modern world where everyone is busy and everything is pretty much hectic and crowded, monasteries seems to be the perfect place to relax and breathe.

While the best part about the monastery is the peaceful and quiet environment to relax away from the crowd, these monasteries are also the place to witness the Buddhist philosophy and practices. Apart from that, the architectures and the unique arts inside the monasteries are an attraction for the tourist itself. So monasteries should most definitely be a part of modern tourism.

You can find detail information about monasteries through different web portals and might also get travel information through the tour operators as well.

As I have already said, you can find monasteries all around the country. You could find monasteries during your trekking journey in the high mountain communities or in the local place. However, you do not have to travel all the way up to the mountains or high altitude communities for the monasteries, there are so many in Kathmandu- even the old ones as well. The Bouddha area in Kathmandu is famous for monasteries and Gumbas. You can also find a couple of them in Pharping area, Swayambhu area, in Chobhar and many other places inside the valley.  Or you can travel all the way to Lumbini- a birthplace of lord Buddha and home of several monasteries.
