Chobhar is definitely one of the major places of Kirtipur Municipality or maybe it is in fact the famous place in Kathmandu valley for the history it has got. Kathmandu- the capital city of Nepal which used to be a lake city before Manjushree cut off the Chobhar hill to let all the lake water flow through the gorge and made the capital suitable for living, the legend has it. So with this history ,it is pretty clear that the start of civilization started in Kathmandu after that.
Moving on, Chobhar is not only famous for histories and stories. There are several other attraction in the place which makes it capable of attracting tourists and definitely has a potential to be a travel destination for the visitors.
Chobhar has been one of the favourite picnic destination among the locals of the capital for a while now. At weekends , the open land hills and field are filled with the locals who visit there for picnic and leisure. Not only that we can find regular nearby visitors everyday in this place for leisure and recreational activities or even just for a fun ride.
Just a few minutes away from the busy traffic and crowded city areas of the capital, Chobhar is settled at peace where there is no any traffic and no unnecessary noises. No wonder, it is one of the favourite picnic destination for the people of Kathmandu.
Having said that, Chobhar is not just famous for the histories and stories that is already quiet popular among the natives of Kathmandu. There are several other attractions that could grab attention of the tourists.
Temples.
Chobhar has got two equally important and famous temples, one at the top of the hill- Adinath other one at the river side- Jalbinayak. Both of these temples has their own importance and rituals. Many locals in the capital visits these temples for their religious and traditional celebrations and rituals. These temples are open all the time for both locals and tourists and has regular visitors all the time.
Monastery
There is a new monastery at the top of the hill in Chobhar. The beautiful arts and architectures and the environment around the monastery where they practice Buddhist Philosophy is an attraction in itself.
Amusement park.
One of the best and top Amusement park of the capital city of Nepal is located here in Chobhar. ‘Whoopee Land’ which has been in operation for a few years now has turned out to be one of the major attraction of this place. With the establishment of this park, Chobhar has seen wide number of visitors like never before during the season. There are several teashops, cafes and restaurant that are being operated nearby the park. Whoopee Land is probably one of the best place to freshen up your mind while in Kathmandu.
Chobhar caves and the gorge
There are several stories about the Chobhar caves and the best part is, it is still there. However, it is hard to tell whether people are allowed to try out the historical Chobhar caves although it is possible to make it through. Even it is possible to try it out, you would probably need a professional guide through those dark tunnels. Since it is cave made way back, the sizes maybe too small, so it might be hard for tall people to fit through there or maybe at some point throughout the tunnel, so it might be risky at times.
The gorge.
This is the same gorge where Manjushree cut off the hill to let flow the water from the Kathmandu valley. It is still believed that this is how the capital of Nepal became suitable for living. The gorge is still out there with all those water flowing through the capital. You can visit there and witness it live. At times during the rainy season, there is a huge flow of water through those gorges which looks stunning and scary at times.
Not only that, A little above the gorge, you will find the tall statue of Manjushree which is slowly becoming one of the attraction point of this place as well. People can always travel out there.
Nearby attractions
Not only that, if these are not enough for you, there are a handful of nearby attraction to this place. The famous Taudaha lake is one of them where you can go and watch the hungry fishes and feed them. Apart from that, a few minutes walk will take you to Kirtipur which is one of the oldest town of the capital. This ancient town has attractions of its own.
So Chobar has all the tight places to indulge you for a while day during your trip to Nepal. The attractions points are worth the visit. While the Chobhar has all those attractions to fit in as a tourists destination, you can hardly find the top rated restaurant, cafes and accomodation services although you could find several small cafes and tea house.
